What the Students Are Saying
“My time at the Cooper Union has pushed me to grow into the artist I want to be. The Designing With Type award has allowed me to access my dream, and to further my artistic career.”
− Wallace Shaler
“Receiving the DWT Award has made an immense impact on both my artistic process and my studies at the Cooper Union.
Since Cooper Union is no longer free for all, the crushing weight of financial stress can be suffocating at times, and I am so appreciative for the DWT Award for alleviating some of that stress.
I use the scholarship for books, art supplies, and crafting materials for my creative practice, causing a whirlwind of creative fusion between my mind, my body, and my vision.
Thanks for everything DWT Awards!”
− Melissa Binari
“The DWT Award has played an important role in allowing me to continue my education at the Cooper Union.
As a transfer student, I’ve had to extend the length of my schooling and feared that this would lead to my further accumulating student loans. Knowing that the DWT Award was there for financial support as I made decisions for my semesters to come, has pushed me to explore new mediums that I maybe would not have I had had to condense my time at the Cooper Union.
I am looking forward to taking everything from casting techniques or cognitive psychology, to graphic design!”
− Antonia Gehnrich
“Without the generous contribution to my education, I would not be pursuing my art with as much confidence. The funds have allowed me to remove an immense financial burden from my sophomore year and be imaginative with my projects this year instead of worrying about monetary cost. I can now move into junior year with intention and the motivation to keep creating and learning.”
− Sydney Elexis Vernon
“Foundation year, although rigorous, has fostered an immense amount of artistic growth within me over the past academic year. I have utilized my scholarship to pay for the remaining amounts of tuition I had, and not having the added stress of having to pay for tuition definitely took a lot of burden off of my back during a stressful, transitional year.”
